Year of Projects was formed back in 2011 by a small group of crafters who set out to complete within a year an individual challenging list of crafting which they would like to complete and to blog weekly about their process in doing so. Weekly they shared the highs and lows of their projects but life also and what was just a blogging crafting group became a community of worldwide friends.
The year begins July 1st and runs until the following June 30th and I am back to participate, having last participated around year 8.
So welcome to week 1 of the year of projects 15
I’ve created a list of knitting projects which I’d like to complete over the next 12 months. I’ve created a bundle for them here on Ravelry where you can view them all at once. Having just picked up my knitting needles again after a 7 year hiatus this list is more than likely overly ambitious but having said that they are what inspire me now to knit.
So let’s take a look at the overall list and I’ll talk to you then about where and how I’m starting with it:
Sweaters
- Tiree by Isabell Kraemer
- Aldous by Isabell Kraemer
- Sook Moon Sweater by Aegyoknnit
- Jenny Sweater by Petiteknit
- Ballerina Romance Sweater by Camille K
- Saguaro by Camille K
- Lenora Sweater by Camille K
- Rib Wave by Joanna Ang
- Fairy Bouquet by Joanna Ang
- Llana Sweater by Masha Ziablikova
- Braidy Loop Sweater by Other Loops
Tops
- Purple Coke by Katrin Schneider
- Mary Tee by Katrine L Bodker
- Strombli by Caitlin Hunter
- Winnie Top by Lily Kate France
Vests
- Elsi Vest by Milena Juhola
- Tulip Loop Vest by Other Loops
- Seavey by Jennifer Brou
- Franklin Park Tank by Jennifer Brou
Cardigans
- Solene Cardigan by Moreca Knit
- Saguaro Cardigan by Camille K
- Som Cardigan by Cookie the Knitter
That brings the list to a total of 22 projects made up of 11 sweaters, 4 tops, 4 vests and 3 cardigans.
To tackle this list I’ve decided to break the year down into quarters, those quarters predominately set around the seasons with a view to knit what I need for the current or next season. Here is my Summer Mood Board which covers the months of Jun – Aug, so anything not completed by the end of August I will complete in June next year.

As you can see, I’ve chosen 5 patterns that I can wear presently and will also be good transtition pieces into the Autumn. Here in the Midlands of Ireland our weather doesn’t get overly hot so I can wear wool pretty much year round and during our Summers these will be perfect over cotton vest tops as an extra layer and in the Autumn longer sleeved tops.
I’ve begun the gauge swatch for the Franklin Park Tank and once I have a rough idea on gauge I’ll be progressing on with that. At the moment I don’t feel the need to cast on any additional projects and I’m quite happy to work mogonmsouly so for now it shall be one project at a time and let’s see if that flow changes over the coming year or not
If you would like to join in or read furthe blogs taking part, you can check out the group on Ravelry here.
Looking forward to catching up with everyone this week.

It is so lovely to see you back ❤️ I love your list and even more so love the mood board to tackle the projects by season. I’m really looking forward to see you moving through these garments 😊
Thanks Lucy, I’m glad to be back and looking forward to seeing how it all goes!
Oh, it is so nice to have you back! I was quite concerned when you kind of dropped out of sight for several years but was happy to find you again via IG! Your list is awesome. You are such a fantastic knitter, I do not think you will have any issue meeting your goals. The ones for this coming quarter are grand. I look forward to watching your progress.
Hi Marsha, so lovely to connect again and bring things all full circle again. I’m looking forward to catching up with you and your goals also this coming year!
Wow you have a wonderful list – I am impressed. I really like your quarter plan idea. I do it by the month and I find it very helpful. Hopefully you will find the same.
Thank you and I’m glad to hear the monthly plan is helpful, it gives me hope that the quaterly plan will work for me.
OMG!! I couldn’t complete half that list and I’m retired so I knit almost all day! I use my Ravelry queue to hold the patterns I really want to knit even though it will take me years to work through the 40 projects in my queue – hahaha. I look forward to hearing about the projects you have picked since many of the patterns are new to me. I know I like Lily Kate as I knit her Abydos tee.
Hehe, I can’t help but think Maureen my list is overly ambitious but it’s a list that makes me happy and if nothing else I’ll have choice in what to pick from lol!
Hi Ruth!!!
It’s so funny we both have come back this year. Your mood board is such a good idea and your projects ate great… I’m so glad you have picked up your needles again.
Hi Kim, it is so lovely to hear from you and I’m so pleased we are both back this year! I’m looking forward to keeping up with you and the grandchildren as I am over your projects! I’m so pleased also the desire to pick up my needles has returned, I did fear it may not.
I love the idea of making a bundle on Ravelry with your Year of Project plans. I think I will do that too. You have inspired me.
Hi Mary-Anne, I’m so glad it inspired you! I’ve found it so helpful in keeping the projects I wanted to do organised and it was easier to select them out of the main sweater and vest etc etc bundles
Welcome back to YOPping, Ruth! I love that you created a bundle on Ravelry to house your YOP plans. You have some gorgeous projects lined up. I look forward to keeping up with you and whatever beautiful things you create. ~ Becki @ Field Lilies (just in case this posts as anonymous)
Hi Becki, I’m so glad it didn’t post anonymous and thank you for the lovely comment. I’m having to remind myself fully of all that WordPress can do! I’m glad you like the bundle, it was just an easy way for me to group them all together and make the bundles feature work for me to organise everything lol
I love your mood boards and your idea for working on things during a specific season. Something weird has happened to me in trimming down my list to what I think is achievable I’ve suddenly lost some of my momentum (and not knitted a stitch since drafting it). I think having an ambitious list is more motivating, shows you a bouquet of options. Your post has inspired me to have a think about the garments in my options and see what I want to do when. This is why I love this group so much, sometimes you just need someone else to spark an idea, or provide some inspiration. So glad you are back and we are sharing our 8th year together.
You are so right Liz, the group just sparks ideas and thoughts on how to adjust and complete our own projects and lists. They evolve so much throughout the year as it is. I hope you were able to come up with some options you like and that motivate you, sometimes motivation is the hardest thing to find
Welcome! And what a great list of projects you’ve compiled. I love your mood board – that’s a great idea to keep projects/materials matched up. Looking forward to seeing things progress this year!
Thank you Anne, I’m looking forward to the year ahead also
I love your list! You have picked so many wonderful patterns.
Thank you
Wow, you have such an ambitious list. I am eager to see your creations.
